What is Nottingham Forest biggest win? Nottingham Forest have really struggled to score goals this season, the days where they would thump sides feel a long way away. They did exist though and Forest have put plenty of sides to the sword in their time – with devastating effect. The club record win is a 14-0 hammering of Clapton in the FA Cup in 1891, but these majestic five wins are all from the last 100 years. For context, they are arranged via most recent – there have amazingly been a few 6-0 wins! – but here are Forest’s five biggest wins in the last century 1. Doncaster Rovers 0-8 NFFC As is standard these days in the League Cup, Forest drew a lower league side with the expectation to avoid the banana skin. It seems that on this occasion at the start of the 1997/98 season, Forest instead chose to smash their lowly opponents into the floor. Geoff Thomas got the ball rolling after 11 minutes, while Dean Saunders made it 2-0 just four minutes later. Jon Olav-Hjelde made it 3-0 after half an hour and Forest then cruised to the halfway point with a hefty lead. However, they were clearly not content with that and just two minutes after the restart, Pierre van Hooijdonk made it 4-0. Eight minutes after that, Hjelde again got on the scoresheet to make it five and then for the last 15, Forest went into kill mode. Saunders grabbed his second on 78, van Hooijdonk got his second after 83 and then Chris Allen bagged on 86. 8-0 win away from home. It was clearly a start as you mean to go on job as the Reds got promoted that year, but it’s not every day you win 8-0. 2. NFFC 7-0 Chelsea It was the game before the 1991 FA Cup Final and Forest could’ve been forgiven for going through the motions beforehand. However, that was most definitely not the case and instead, the Reds put on an exhibition for their supporters. Roy Keane opened the scoring after eight minutes, before Garry Parker doubled the lead just four minutes later. Ian Woan made it 3-0 after 25 and instead of easing off with the final in mind, the Reds went for Chelsea’s throat. Nigel Clough got on the scoresheet just after half-time and then Stuart Pearce got in on the act on the hour mark, making it 5-0. Not content with one, Pearce once again found his way on the scoresheet on 78 minutes, before Keane made it 7-0 with six to play. It’s a scoreline barely believable at the best of times, let alone now, with Forest fans only able to dream of such days. 3. NFFC 7-0 Burnley We go back to 1957 for this one and with the Reds adopting a 3-2-5 ‘WM’ formation, which some fans may want to see today. It certainly worked for the Reds on this occasion as they blew Burnley away in emphatic style. Forest took the lead through Billy Gray after just two minutes and four minutes after that, Jimmy Barrett had made it 2-0. The goals didn’t slow up and after 17, Stewart Imlach had made it 3-0, before Tommy Wilson made it four after 22. With the game in the bag, Forest then set about showing no mercy and turned the screw even further in the second half. Imlach got his second of the game after 53, before Eddie Baily popped up two minutes later to make it 6-0. Wilson got a second with 20 minutes left to play and that’s how it finished – Forest sending their fans home very happy with a 7-0 win. 4. NFFC 7-1 Swindon Town The League One era was frankly very horrible and few Forest fans will disagree, though it did have its moments – this being one. Nicky Southall opened the scoring after just three minutes, while the Reds then made the most from their set-pieces. Wes Morgan and Ian Breckin both struck to make it 3-0 going into the break and the Reds just didn’t let up. Within 10 minutes, Southall had added two more to the score and subsequently got a hattrick, Forest 5-0 up and cruising. Morgan then added a second with another header, before Trevor Benjamin pulled back a consolation for Swindon. It would still be seven heaven for the Reds though, with Jack Lester popping up in the 90th minute to secure a resounding win. 5. Sheffield Wednesday 1-7 NFFC One of the club’s best Premier League moments, this unbelievable win at Hillsborough on April 1 1995 brings a smile every single year. Stuart Pearce opened the scoring for Forest after 17 minutes and they didn’t look back, with Ian Woan doubling the lead three minutes later. Bryan Roy then struck just after half-time, but four minutes later Mark Bright scored a penalty for the home side to make it 3-1. This seemed to annoy Forest as they then went on a rampage, with Roy scoring again not long after – his 12th of the season. Stan Collymore then got in on the act with two goals in two minutes, taking his season tally to 18 and with Wednesday 6-1 down. The cherry on the top was provided by Lars Bohinen, with a delightful chipped effort receiving applause from the home fans and sending Forest home with a 7-1 away win
