What was the cause of Pearl Shongwe’s death? A drug overdose is suspected in the death of television and radio presenter Pearl Shongwe. Shongwe, a news reader on Tbo Touch’s afternoon drive show, Touch Down, was found dead at her home in Polofields north of Joburg in Gauteng in November last year. It has been almost four months since the passing of Metro FM news reader Pearl Shongwe and police are reportedly suspecting a drug overdose as her cause of death, Sunday World reports. The 35-year-old radio and TV personality was found dead on 8 November 2022 at her home in Polofields, north of Johannesburg. DRUGS CONFISCATED FROM PEARL SHONGWE’S HOUSE According to a police detective who did not want to be named, they have ruled out foul play as Shongwe’s cause of death and are now investigating a possible drug overdose. The detective — who is part of the investigation — revealed that drugs were confiscated from the Daily Thetha presenters bedroom when they were combing her house for possible leads on her death. “We suspect drug overdose because we have found drugs in her bedroom when we were combing the house for possible leads to her death,” the detective was quoted by Sunday World as saying. Shongwe was found dead and motionless at her home after her family and a security guard forced entry through her bedroom window when she would not respond to their calls. She was declared dead on the scene. NO TOXICOLOGY RESULTS YET Although a drug overdose is suspected as her cause of death, police are yet to obtain the toxicology report. Another detective revealed that CCTV footage was requested to see who was the last person to enter Shongwe’s home before her passing. The detective explained that they also suspect that if there was a person behind the presenter’s passing, they may have planted drugs in her bedroom as a cover up.
