England has played 1063 Test matches which is the most of any team, followed by Australia with 859 Tests. But when it comes to winning the most matches, Australia is on the top, having 408 wins at an impressive win percentage of 47.49. In the second spot, England has sealed a place with 391 wins (36.67 %), they are regarded as the nation that loves test cricket the most. One of the most competitive test teams in the world, South Africa occupies 3rd place, winning 177 games out of 460. Our beloved nation India has won 173 tests out of 572 matches, with a decent win percentage of 30.29.
Test cricket is the longest and oldest format of Cricket. The first official Test match took place in March 1877 and was played between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Australia won that Test match by 45 runs. And for the next 12 years only these two teams played this format. In 1889 South Africa also made their Test debut and in 1932 India also became the sixth Test playing nation. And this year Ireland and Afghanistan also made their Test debut and became 11th and 12th Test playing nation.
